![]() | Revolver (Remastered) by The Beatles
Buy new: $15.15 / Used from: $8.99 Paul McCartney's highwater mark as a composer. John counters with some inspired guitar based numbers and George gives us three solid numbers.
(Note: Time has been very kind to this album. When you compare it to other albums of similar vintage you get the feeling it could have been recorded yesterday.)
|
![]() | Abbey Road (Remastered) by The Beatles
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $8.99 Whether you prefer side 1 or side 2 is a moot point. They're both nearly the best that rock has ever offered.
(Note: and the sound is noticeably improved too!)
|
![]() | Rubber Soul (Remastered) by The Beatles
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $7.50 America was cheated in the 60's. This is the true Rubber Soul. Important also as Brian Wilson's reason for creating Pet Sounds.
(Note: After the release of the Capitol boxsets my opinion has changed about the American version slightly. The additions and the subtractions give it a conceptual nuance that makes it quite addictive.)
|
![]() | The White Album (Remastered) by The Beatles
Buy new: $17.85 / Used from: $9.99 The wealth of material overides any other arguements that arise including a lack of cohesiveness and Revolution 9.
(Note: The mono version is different enough to warrant attention. For example Ringo no longer has blisters on his fingers. It may not be better but it gives us another veiwpoint on a classic album.)
|
![]() | Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Remastered) by The Beatles
Buy new: $13.88 / Used from: $6.95 A little weak in the song department compared to Rubber Soul and Revolver. However Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane were removed because the record company needed a single.
(Note: The mono version of Sgt Pepper is a huge improvement. It made me reconsider switching positions positions with the White Album.)
|
![]() | Help! (Remastered) by The Beatles
Buy new: $16.47 / Used from: $6.49 Contains the best and the worst the Beatles ever offered.
(Note: When I said the worst the Beatles ever offered I was talkin songs like Tell Me What You See and You Like Me Too Much. They are nothing if not boring. I'd have rather have had That Means Alot and If You Got Troubles in their place. An album with two Ringo songs what a concept!!)
|
![]() | A Hard Day's Night (Remastered) by The Beatles
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $6.00 Doesn't hold up to the blitzkrieg created by the first three songs.
(Note: and doesn't suffer from it's stereo version being ponied up which is why Please Please Me dropped like a rock)
|
![]() | Please Please Me (Remastered) by The Beatles
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $8.89 A very impressive debut. Perhaps could be considered the start of the album rock era.
(Note: There was a reason that George Martin used the mono version of this. It sounds a heckuva lot better.)
|
![]() | Let It Be (Remastered) by The Beatles
Buy new: $14.88 / Used from: $6.00 The acoustic numbers are the best. For all of Paul's whining Phil Spector's greatest harm was done to Across The Universe not The Long And Winding Road.
(Note: Let It Be ...Naked be damned. This is still a great album.)
|
![]() | Beatles For Sale (Remastered) by The Beatles
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $7.08 Contains the lows that are on Help without the highs. Still better than 99% of the albums released by everyone else over the years.
(Note: The stereo version doesn't suffer when compared to the mono version.)
|
![]() | With The Beatles (Remastered) by The Beatles
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $6.71 I've always preferred Meet The Beatles.
(Note: and I still do. Like Please Please Me they should have used the mono version as the main version. The one saving grace is the stereo mix of Money.)
|
![]() | Yellow Submarine (Remastered) by The Beatles
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $6.98 Buy the Yellow Submarine Songtrack instead. For us completists only. Hey Bulldog must be owned however.
(Note: I've always been of the opinion that these songs should have been added to Past Masters like they are on the mono boxset.)
|
![]() | Magical Mystery Tour (Remastered) by The Beatles
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $7.31 Note: I included only the Beatles original release albums. Magical Mystery Tour does not qualify. It was an album created by the Beatles American record company
(Another note: What I didn't say is that I feel that Magical Mystery Tour is a wonderful listening experience. If somebody twisted my arm I'd probably put it between Sgt Pepper and Help.)
|
![]() | Past Masters (Remastered) by The Beatles
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $9.21 Note: Again I added this for completeness. While this contains some of the most beautiful music known to man it's never been a truely cohesive listening experience. But for $16.99 why complain?
