Art-Song: Renee Fleming (opera singer) and Brad Mehldau (jazz pianist), come together in this unique recording of two song cycles composed by Mehldau. I added a second album of hers because it's SO different from "Haunted Heart". I don't care about the less-than-favorable reviews, this is some INCREDIBLE music! Listen with an open mind, and you'll be blown away!

Jazz: Renee Fleming is best known for her opera & "classical" voice, but shows her amazing versatility in this album of jazz and "jazzed-down" art songs.

R&B: Whitney is the girl. No one can compare to her vocal ability in the pop music industry. Too bad she's hurt herself so badly! This album is a great one to get if you just want a great sample.

Classical/World/Rock/Easy-Listening/New-Age/Broadway: Harem is my personal favorite of Brightman's albums, and I own most of them. Her voice inspired me to pursue classical singing more seriously, but as I developed my own voice, I quickly learned how much she was lacking in training. But she sings with a unique breathy, controlled sound that is great on this album.

Soul/Funk: Roberta Flack is the songstress of some of the most famous soulful songs, although you might never have heard her name. She sings as though she is speaking to you. It doesn't get much better than this!

Pop/Contemporary: Any of Celine Dion's albums are worth the money (except her "Live" album, which has a lot of talking, and, well, she should stick to singing). Great voice, a great cross-over artist, working in classical, pop, rock, folk, jazz and other vocal genres.

Contemporary Christian: Sandi Patti has two voices. Her early voice of the 90's was a clear, vivacious, powerful voice, singing happy spiritual music. After her divorce and other painful personal matters, we get a much more intimate, personal voice in the artist.

R&B/Pop: Mariah Carey, in the 1990's, was one of the most unique, artistic female vocalists in the business. Since then, she has become just another pop/R&B sex-symbol. But pre-silicone, she was amazing. One of the few who perfected the whistle-tone.

Rock/Country/Folk/Bluegrass: This group has a great, unique blend of styles. The instruments are bluegrass and folk instruments, the vocals are country, rock and a little blues, and the harmonies are like a southern-gospel girls group. A great find!

Rock/Folk/Jazz: It's hard to categorize artists like Tori Amos. She is a singer-songwriter that looks at music as a canvas on which to present texture, color and pictures that will challenge the viewer (listener). She does not sing "pretty", but sings with emotion and conviction.

Rock/Pop/World/Latin: Shakira has a unique sound, using the break in her voice to nearly yodel her songs. Unfortunately, her sound is so unique and striking that she cannot work outside of it, and it limits her ability at a long, consistent music career.

Rock/Pop/Country/Soul/Funk: Anastacia is a relatively new artist for me. She has one of the most unique voices out there today. She Has a huge gospel/funk/country style of singing that allows her to sing with a lot of attitude. It's a sexy voice!

80's Rock/Country-Rock: The 80's would not be complete without the singer of the beloved "Black Velvet". Myles is an excellent vocalist, following in the influence of Janice Joplin and her "chordal" singing.

Country/Folk/Rock: Mary Chapin Carpenter is a great American sonstress and songwriter. She has an easy country/folk voice, and you'll likely be familiar with at least several of her songs.

Rock/Folk/Jazz: This was my first Sarah McLachlan album. Her "In The Arms Of An Angel" is known by nearly everyone. Her sensitivity is astounding, and the sound is unforgettable.

Broadway: Audra McDonald is the new voice of Broadway. She sings with power and emotion. Her gorgeous, clear, soaring voice is an emotional experience in it's self!

Rock/Pop/Country/R&B: Finally, we have a modern diva! It had seemed as if the girls with the pipes had all left us after the 90's. But Kelly Clarkson (American Idol find), is a truly amazing vocalist. She can sing rock, pop, R&B, and country. She can croon or belt, and it's all fabulous!

R&B/Pop/Rock/soul: I'm wondering when we are going to hear more from this amazing girl. Her last album was not her best, because it was sloppy (intentional on the part of the producer, to make her sound "raw"). But this girl can blow!

Country: Once you get past the ...obstacles... Dolly Parton is a great country singer. She has a tiny, quivering (vibrato), very country-sounding voice that is immediately recognized by anyone familiar with her style. Great classics here!

Chant/medieval: This group of four ladies, sings with beautiful harmony and unity. It's difficult to hear where one voice ends and the next begins.
