HumbugHumbug by Arctic Monkeys
Buy new: $12.36 / Used from: $6.98
Easily #1 to me...very close to perfection. If only they didn't spell out D-A-N-G-E-R-O-U-S. That's my only complaint, I hate when bands do that. Hello, we're not watching Sesame St. Still, "My Propellor" and "The Jeweler's Hands" are insanely good. If you want a perfect album, you need a great opening and closing track and this one aces that.
Wolfgang Amadeus PhoenixWolfgang Amadeus Phoenix by Phoenix
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $6.22
Very addictive. Great cd to play for people who are really not into indie rock. The whole cd is just incredible.
Merriweather Post PavilionMerriweather Post Pavilion by Animal Collective
Buy new: $13.45 / Used from: $7.29
It's AC...everything after Sung Tongs has been awesome. They're always trying something different and you have to give them props for that. There is no other Animal Collective. Forget "Girls," "Brother Sport" is insane and to me, the best track on this album. Easily, one of my fav songs of 2009!
HospiceHospice by The Antlers
Buy new: $10.56 / Used from: $5.86
This grows on me every listen. This time next year, I bet this could move up to #2. I haven't felt emotion like this out of an album in a long time...unbelievable.
Rainwater Cassette ExchangeRainwater Cassette Exchange by Deerhunter
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $3.73
I lived in ATL for few years and consequently I have a special appreciation for these guys, as I've seen them grow year after year. It's just an EP, but the songs are still fantastic.
Time To DieTime To Die by The Dodos
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $2.95
Went from a 2-man band to 3 on this album. Personally, I think it's a good touch. Very addictive, not as much as their debut, but that's because it's more structured and not as wild. I liked the crazy jamming on their 1st album, there's just not enough of it here.
LogosLogos by Atlas Sound
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $8.73
It's Bradford...he's brilliant. His debut was done in his bedroom all on his own. This one, he brought in friends and a band, which work out really well.
Face ControlFace Control by Handsome Furs
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $4.05
I love Dan Boeckner (Wolf Parade) and this second solo album does not disappoint. It's awesome that this is just him and his wife...see them live, you'll love it!
It's Blitz!It's Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeah's
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $7.95
I really wasn't a big fan of Karen O and the YYY. After a couple of listens of this though, I am now a BIG fan.
Tarot Sport (Dig)Tarot Sport (Dig) by Fuck Buttons
Buy new: $14.82 / Used from: $4.49
Their loops are insane! Some people might think they are incredibly repetitive, but I always say to myself after the cd is over, "That was 45 minutes?" Great cd for car rides as an hour will basically fly-by.
BromstBromst by Dan Deacon
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $5.24
Only Dan can do what he does. His samples are sick!!! See him live, it will blow your mind.
AlbumAlbum by Girls
Buy new: $12.28 / Used from: $6.99
At first I was skeptical, especially with Owens' voice. However, the more I listen to this the better it gets and the more get hooked with his voice and lyrics.
XXXX by The XX
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $11.97
I just like bands that have girl singers so this one automatically jumps up the ranks for me. Plus, it's just sexy to me. It seems like it would be great to have sex to. I haven't tried, but it seems like it would work well;)
BackspacerBackspacer by Pearl Jam
Buy new: $6.88 / Used from: $3.98
Forget the reviewers that say, "This is the best thing PJ has put out since Vs." Everything they do is good, it's freaking Pearl Jam! This one, however, is really good.
Wilco (The Album)Wilco (The Album) by Wilco
Buy new: $11.47 / Used from: $4.16
Tweedy and team put out one hell of an album. Forget "dad rock," this one works for 20 something's as well.
VeckatimestVeckatimest by Grizzly Bear
Buy new: $13.09 / Used from: $5.35
The 1st side of this album is great...side 2 loses me a little.
It's FrighteningIt's Frightening by White Rabbits
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $3.86
You can tell Britt Daniel (Spoon) produced this, which is a big bonus for me. I loved their debut and this one doesn't disappoint.
Why There Are MountainsWhy There Are Mountains by Cymbals Eat Guitars
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $4.50
These guys got a big boost from me seeing them live...awesome show. After the show and now listening to this numerous times, I now understand all the hype these guys got back at the beginning of '09.
200 Million Thousand200 Million Thousand by Black Lips
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $4.44
This band is not for everyone, but I think it's their most accessible, even more than "Good Bad, not Evil." If you ever get the chance to see these guys live, do it.
A Brief History of LoveA Brief History of Love by The Big Pink
Buy new: $12.63 / Used from: $5.53
If you're going though tough times in regards to love, you'll definitely relate to this album.
FarmFarm by Dinosaur Jr.
Buy new: $12.61 / Used from: $7.00
The originators of 90's grunge return to form. Every guitarist who loves distortion should respect J. Mascis, I know I do.
Post-NothingPost-Nothing by Japandroids
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $4.99
The duo bands are becoming big (White Stripes, Black Keys, No Age, Handsome Furs, Dodos) and I'm liking it. Great cd to rock out to.
Kingdom of RustKingdom of Rust by Doves
Buy new: $11.28 / Used from: $0.01
For some reason, I always forget about this album. I love the Doves and their potential, but they just haven't delivered since the "Last Broadcast."
Fever RayFever Ray by Fever Ray
Buy new: $13.84 / Used from: $9.30
Hauntingly good.
BORN LIKE THIS.BORN LIKE THIS. by Doom
Buy new: $10.67 / Used from: $5.97
His lyrics are outta control!
Pains of Being Pure at HeartPains of Being Pure at Heart by Pains of Being Pure at Heart
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $6.45
Reminds me of the early 90's...great debut.
ActorActor by St. Vincent
Buy new: $13.25 / Used from: $8.05
More dark and more moody than her debut.
DragonslayerDragonslayer by Sunset Rubdown
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $4.50
Spencer Krug, delivers as always. However, this does not have a song that hooks me like his others, i.e. "Mending of the Gown" or "Snakes Got a Leg III."
Hold TimeHold Time by M. Ward
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $6.99
Typical M.Ward.
Julian Plenti Is SkyscraperJulian Plenti Is Skyscraper by Julian Plenti
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $9.96
Great debut solo album. "Games for Days" should have been an Interpol song though.
The EternalThe Eternal by Sonic Youth
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $2.98
Please, it's Sonic Youth. No need to say more.
I'm Going AwayI'm Going Away by The Fiery Furnaces
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $2.19
Finally, a FF album that's good again.
MannersManners by Passion Pit
Buy used from: $3.84
Pretty good debut cd...the vocals get to me after a while. Good beats and music though.
Two SunsTwo Suns by Bat for Lashes
Buy new: $10.33 / Used from: $2.55
I need to be in a special mood for this one. Still, the musical arrangements and her voice are amazing.
